For several years, agricultural education institutions in developing countries have shown interest in including lessons on human nutrition in their agricultural curricula. Agricultural and education departments in some of these countries have also demonstrated the benefits that agricultural experts in their countries can derive from a better understanding of the fundamentals of human nutrition as applied to agricultural production and distribution processes. To encourage the inclusion of human nutrition studies in agricultural education, the FAO has initiated a plan to develop a general curriculum guideline for introductory courses on human nutrition as a subject related to agriculture in developing countries. The curriculum guidelines are intended for use in pre-practical and practical agricultural education programmes involving students or personnel assigned or to be assigned to agricultural programmes at the village, district or community level in developing countries.
