This book presents three research methods: quantitative, qualitative, and research and development (R&D). Quantitative methods are suitable for research on large populations, where the problem is clear, observable, and measurable, and where researchers intend to test hypotheses. Qualitative research methods are especially suitable when the problem is still "dim or even dark," and researchers intend to understand in depth a complex, meaningful social situation. Meanwhile, the R&D model is used when researchers intend to produce a specific product and simultaneously test its effectiveness.
