Propaganda media : teori dan studi kasus aktual
Media Propaganda Theory and Current Case Studies by Andi Youna Bachtiar SS, M.Ikom, Zulmi Savitri, M.Ikom is a knowledge book about the history of propaganda. Propaganda is sometimes something we are not aware of, especially in this era where the development of technology and information is very advanced. News and information can be easily obtained both in print and online. Every time we are always updated with information, given issues that are considered important so that without us realizing it, we change our thinking and behavior. Propaganda is a process of spreading ideas to lead active or passive participation and shape public opinion.
In the view of philosopher John Dewey, the authority to solve the problem of propaganda does not lie in institutions or technocracy or scientific methods. On the contrary, such institutions are not needed because society can learn to defend itself. Throughout his life, Dewey never tired of stating his attitude and arguments, which assumes that public education is the most effective way to oppose totalitarianism that has quietly begun to infiltrate democracy.
According to Richard Laitinen and Richard Rakos (1997), modern propaganda is the control of people's behavior through media manipulation facilitated by three factors, namely: an audience that is entangled and plagued by a disturbing lifestyle that is continuously less literate in information, and not very involved politically. Democracy which then makes the absence of strict control from the government is considered a characteristic of a "free society", even though in fact this does not mean that the information available is truly free.
