Food consumption assessment is a method used to calculate individual and family nutrient intake for policy formulation, both for the government and health workers in hospitals or other institutions. Food consumption assessment is one method used to determine the nutritional status of individuals or groups. In the early 1940s, consumption surveys, particularly the 24-hour recall method, were widely used in nutrition and health research. In Indonesia, consumption surveys have been frequently used in nutrition research. Food consumption assessment, also known as a nutrition consumption survey, is an activity that aims to collect a large number of variables related to what is eaten and drunk, including supplements, the amount and variety of food, and how often an individual or group of people consume it over a short period to determine the average daily nutrient intake and its adequacy.
