Dengue fever, and in particular its more severe manifestation dengue hemorrhagic fever, ranks very high among new and emerging infectious diseases in public health significance and is considered the most important viral-anthropod disease. Since the early 1970s, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been actively involved in the development and improvement of strategies for the treatment and control of dengue. In 1986, WHO published guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and control of dengue hemorrhagic fever which have enjoyed popularity and have become internationally recognized as an authoritative reference. In WHA resolution 46.31 of the Forty-Sixth World Health Assembly in 1993 emphasized that dengue prevention and control should be a priority of the WHO.
