This book is expected to increase our knowledge about the history of the development of herbal medicine which is an ancestral heritage of our Indonesian people. Hopefully this book can also be one of the reference materials in order to develop herbal medicine which was originally only used in limited environments to become one of the complementary choices in the national health service system in Indonesia. It is hoped that the efficacy of herbal medicine which was originally only known based on hereditary experience, can later be proven and scientifically accounted for. Thus, herbal medicine can be a host in its own country and an honored guest abroad. Personally, I know Professor Sutarjadi, the author of this book, very well. Thanks to his encouragement and support, I am determined to develop the use of herbal medicine in health services at Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. In the future, as an original cultural heritage of the Indonesian nation, hopefully herbal medicine can be legalized as one part of the national health system facilities, in accordance with the program of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in implementing the National Health Law.
