In preparing this book, the authors have attempted to emphasize aspects of toxicology to meet the clinical needs of students and personnel working in the fields of medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, environment, occupational health and safety. The discussion of certain theoretical and research aspects of toxicology is condensed to fit the size and shape of this book. Learning how to think clearly about poisoning is a natural and very difficult task. Even physicians with years of experience teaching or practicing clinical medicine in prescribing to their patients are often at a loss in deciding which options to accept and which to reject among the elements of new or modified drugs. The main purpose of this book is to help the development of medical science and to foster a skeptical attitude towards all types of drugs and to suggest to general practitioners that there are times when they should review their prescribing habits and critically reevaluate the drugs that have been used over the years. The withdrawal of a number of useless medicines from the market either voluntarily or as required by regulation includes both general attitudes and certain negative opinions.
