Bobath Concept: Theory and Clinical Practice in Neurological Rehabilitation {BW Fisioterapi}
The Bobath Concept is a therapeutic approach developed by Berta and Karel Bobath to treat movement disorders in individuals with neurological damage, such as in cases of cerebral palsy, stroke, or traumatic brain injury. The concept focuses on restoring normal postural control and movement through motor stimulation and learning. Bobath therapy involves repetition of functional, purposeful movements to help the brain form new movement patterns, with the aim of reducing abnormal movement patterns and promoting more natural movement abilities.
This approach is individualised and holistic, where the therapist will guide the patient in daily activities while stimulating weak or impaired areas of the body to function optimally.
