Thrombosis is a major cause of death and disability not only in western countries but also in Indonesia, because arterial thrombosis can manifest as acute coronary syndrome or as ischemic, while deep vein thrombosis can cause pulmonary embolism which can also be fatal. To be able to treat thrombosis rationally, it is necessary to understand the pathophysiology and recognize the risk factors for both arterial thrombosis and venous thrombosis. Before understanding the pathophysiology of thrombosis, we must first understand the physiology of hemostasis. This book contains papers on thrombosis hemostasis including disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) that have been presented at the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Symposium and written by several staff of the Department of Clinical Pathology and staff of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine FKUI-RSCM. In accordance with the rapid development in the field of hemostasis and thrombosis, this 5th edition has included a revision of coagulation theory. In addition, this book also contains even those that have been presented at several symposia and some literature reviews on new risk factors for thrombosis. The purpose of this book is to help doctors and medical students to understand the problems of hemostasis and thrombosis that may be encountered in the management of patients.
